How safe is internet banking? Online banking fraud has doubled in the first half of 2009.

 

Some customers are still falling foul of ‘phishing’ schemes i.e emails that pretend to be from a bank and then direct customers to bogus websites where their passwords are stolen.

 

But more careful online bank customers are also suffering at the hands of underground hacking technology – ‘Keylogging’ – and is largely held responsible for the rise in online fraud.  Unlike Phishing, this is not an attack that alert and sophisticated users can avoid.

Did you know that 852 Indian Websites were defaced in April 2009?

As per the official information released by CERT-In (the Computer Emergency Response Team operating under the Department of Information Technology, Govt of India), in Feb 2009 47 Indian websites were hacked, while in March 2009 46 Indian websites were hacked. 

 

This figure has jumped to an alarming 852 Indian websites in April 2009.

Conficker Virus – A simple check

Conficker, also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido, is a computer worm targeting the Microsoft Windows operating system that was first detected in October 2008. The worm uses a combination of advanced malware techniques which has made it difficult to counter.

 

Experts say it is the worst infection since the SQL Slammer. Estimates of the number of computers infected range from almost 9 million PCs to 15 million computers, however a conservative minimum estimate is more like 3 million which is more than enough to cause great harm.

$9 million (about Rs.45 crores) stolen from ATMs in less than 30 minutes

Mission Impossible !!

 

 
With only 100 compromised ATM cards thieves were able to grab $9 million from ATMs in a new style of attack in just under 30 minutes. Law enforcement sources have told that it’s one of the most frightening well-coordinated heists they’ve ever seen.
