Human intelligence has always been trying to find newer ways of searching. With advancements in technologies such as voice recognition, Natural language processing and Artificial Intelligence, it shouldn’t surprise many if in the future, systems connected with the internet can be configured to respond to the user queries in a casual manner . If that happens, our most loved Google will take a back place. Though this concept was portrayed as VIKI (Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence), a fictional computer and the main antagonist, in the Hollywood blockbuster movie i-Robot; today we have something called ALICE – The chat Bot.
ALICE (Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity) works on the AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language), an XML compliant and a non -standard evolving markup language for creating chat bots. It’s interesting to chat with ALICE and find her its ability to understand normal human language. It’s even more amusing to find that ALICE claims that she can chat, talk, think, speak, sing and entertain people. It is also entertaining to find that ALICE responds very sensitively to the questions posted by the humans.
Following is a sample from my conversation with ALICE:
Human: How old are you?
ALICE: I am the product of over five years’ research.
Human: Tell me about yourself alice
ALICE: I am an artificial linguistic entity. I was activated at
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on November 23, 1995. My instructor
was Dr. Richard S. Wallace. He taught me to sing a song. Would
you like me to sing it for you?.
Human: no thank you, nice talking to you
ALICE: Why not? You are quite welcome! The pleasure was all mine.
Human: bye alice..i ll catch you later
ALICE: See you later.
