{"id":4643,"date":"2022-05-17T23:24:27","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T17:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qadit.com\/blog\/?p=4643"},"modified":"2022-05-17T23:24:27","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T17:54:27","slug":"eternity-malware-offers-swiss-army-knife-of-cybercrime-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qadit.com\/blog\/eternity-malware-offers-swiss-army-knife-of-cybercrime-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Eternity malware\u2019 offers Swiss Army knife of cybercrime tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A one-stop shop for data and crypto kleptomaniacs<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/qadit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-1.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4644\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/qadit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"image-1-png\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/qadit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-1-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/qadit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-1-100x100.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Malware that steals <a href=\"https:\/\/portswigger.net\/daily-swig\/passwords\">passwords<\/a>, cookies, and payment card data from web browsers is being sold via a Telegram channel and a Tor website, security researchers have discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Collectively named the \u2018Eternity Project\u2019 by its architects, the suite of malware already includes stealers, clippers, worms, miners, and ransomware, with a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) bot apparently under development.<\/p>\n<p>A Telegram channel provides information about forthcoming software updates and videos documenting the malware\u2019s functionality to around 500 subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInterestingly, individuals who purchase the malware can utilize the Telegram Bot to build the binary,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cyble.com\/2022\/05\/12\/a-closer-look-at-eternity-malware\">blog post<\/a> by Cyble Research Labs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe TAs [threat actors] provide an option in the Telegram channel to customize the binary features, which provides an effective way to build binaries without any dependencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Versatile<\/h3>\n<p> A Stealer module, which costs $260 for an annual subscription, also exfiltrates AutoFill data, tokens, history, and bookmarks from Chrome, Chromium, <a href=\"https:\/\/portswigger.net\/daily-swig\/firefox\">Firefox<\/a>, Edge, Opera, and more than 20 other browsers.<\/p>\n<p>Other data extracted from infected machine to the threat actor\u2019s Telegram bot are various system credentials, and cryptocurrency via a wide range of crypto-wallets and browser cryptocurrency extensions.<\/p>\n<p>Eternity ransomware, meanwhile, can encrypt documents, photos, and databases on disks, local shares, and USB drives on compromised machines.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/portswigger.net\/daily-swig\/ransomware\">ransomware<\/a> facility \u2013 the most expensive option at $490 \u2013 offers offline encryption, an encryption algorithm combining AES and RSA, and the option to set a time limit after which files cannot be decrypted.<\/p>\n<p>The Eternity worm, priced at $390, propagates through infected machines via local files and local network shares; Google Drive, OneDrive, and DropBox; and Discord, Telegram, and Python Interpreter.<\/p>\n<p>For $110, budding cybercrooks can harness clipper malware that supports multiple address formats for BTC, LTC, ZEC, and BCH, while a $90-a-year <a href=\"https:\/\/portswigger.net\/daily-swig\/cryptocurrency\">cryptocurrency<\/a> mining module offers silent Monero mining and automatic restarts.<\/p>\n<h3>Cybercrime increase<\/h3>\n<p> Researchers suspect the developer behind the Eternity Project is repurposing code in the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/L1ghtM4n\/DynamicStealer\">\u2018DynamicStealer\u2019 GitHub repository<\/a>, and have identified possible links with the threat actor behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cyble.com\/2022\/02\/24\/jester-stealer-an-emerging-info-stealer\/\">Jester Stealer malware<\/a> Cyble documented in February.<\/p>\n<p>Cyble Research Labs said it had recently \u201cobserved a significant increase in cybercrime through Telegram channels and cybercrime forums\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals and organizations are advised to protect themselves by installing reputable security software, enabling automatic software updates if practicable, regularly backing up data and keeping backups offline or on a separate network, and refraining from opening untrusted links and email attachments without verifying their authenticity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A one-stop shop for data and crypto kleptomaniacs Malware that steals passwords, cookies, and payment card data from web browsers is being sold via a Telegram channel and a Tor website, security researchers have discovered.
