Recently it became known for instance that emails can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghacks.net\/2012\/11\/09\/filter-gmail-email-messages-by-size\/\">filtered by size<\/a> using the size: parameter in the search form on the Gmail website.<\/p>\n<p>Google today announced that all Gmail advanced search parameters are now available on a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/mail\/bin\/answer.py?hl=en&amp;answer=7190\">Searching Gmail<\/a> support page. This includes the size parameter, but also additional parameters such as \u201colder than\u201d to find emails that are older than the specified age or \u201clarger\u201d which does the same as the size parameter.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a short list of the most important advanced search parameters that you can use to search your emails on the Gmail website:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<strong>from:<\/strong> \u2013 find emails from a specific sender<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>to:<\/strong> \u2013 find emails sent to a specific recipient<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>subject:<\/strong> \u2013 search for words in subject lines<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>label:<\/strong> \u2013 search for messages by label<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>has:attachment<\/strong> \u2013 display only messages with attachments<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>filename:<\/strong> \u2013 search for attachments by name or filetype<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>in:anywhere<\/strong> \u2013 search anywhere included spam and trash folders which are by default excluded from the search results.<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>is:starred<\/strong>, <strong>is:unread<\/strong>, <strong>is:read<\/strong> \u2013 search for messages that are starred, unread or read<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>cc:<\/strong>, <strong>bcc:<\/strong> \u2013 search for recipients listed in cc or bcc fields<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>after:<\/strong>, <strong>before:<\/strong>, <strong>older:<\/strong>, <strong>newer:<\/strong> \u2013 search for messages in a specific period of time using the format yyyy\/mm\/dd<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>is:chat<\/strong> \u2013 search for chat messages<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>size:<\/strong> search for messages larger than a specified size<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>larger:<\/strong>, <strong>smaller:<\/strong> \u2013 like size, but may use size abbreviations, e.g. 1MB for 1 million bytes.<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>rfc822msgid:<\/strong> \u2013 find messages by message header id<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghacks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/gmail-sort-by-size.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghacks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/gmail-sort-by-size.jpg\" alt=\"gmail sort by size\" width=\"595\" height=\"199\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The search parameters are most effective when used in combination with search terms. You can for instance search for emails that are larger than a specified size sent by a particular contact of yours, or only last year\u2019s emails that you received from a company.
