How you can enjoy better security
We all know how important passwords are. Here are some tips on how you can effectively manage what is undoubtedly a large posse of passwords you are forced to have.
– Use songs/ poems to create strong passwords. ‘Ma Tujhe Salaam, Amma Tujhe Salaam; Vande Maataram’ might be: MtsatsvM
– Keep strong separate passwords at least for your important accounts. Do not use your banking password anywhere else.
– Vary your password slightly based on what you are accessing. For eg. say your base password is: foxwolf. Say the rule you have decided to adopt is ‘base password + last letter of application name (in CAPS) + first letter of application name + length of application name’. So your password for your Gmail acount will be: foxwolfLg5 and your password for your Ebay account will be: foxwolfYe4. This is much better than having the same password for all accounts.
– Use strong passwords even if you have to write it down. Of course don’t keep it under the proverbial keyboard or stick it to the side of your monitor. Keep it in your purse; transpose the letters by 4 or 5 or whatever you decide; don’t mention the application or website to which this is the password; write a short note and embed your password in the note.
This might have some people crying wolf, but it is better to have strong password written down than having a weak password.
